I truly believe in having open discussions with students about their performance. Students benefit from taking responsibility for their choices and one way I accomplish that in my classroom is by filling out a behavior rubric with them each week. We talk about the choices they made, how they treated others, and whether they showed their best work. Then I discuss with each student their goal to improve the next week. Students are more empowered to work hard and do well when they have a goal they've made for their own success! I included the rubric and a letter to families to explain how the rubric is used.
