This may be used for small group instruction with up to 6 students. Assign each student a number between 1 and 6. You will need 6 clothespins. Use a sharpie to write a number on each clothespin.
Take the printout and wrap it around a ruler. Use tape to secure it.
Establish the rules/norms of appropriate and inappropriate behaviors during lessons.
All students start on "green". When there is an inappropriate behavior, the teacher moves that student's numbered clothespin down to "yellow" which is a warning. If the behavior improves, that student's clothespin may be moved back up to "green". If inappropriate behaviors continue, then the student's clothespin goes down to orange. In my room, that's the time when they put their name in the book (this may vary from classroom to classroom). Again, if behavior improves, they may move back up. If not, the clothespin is moved down to red, which means a trip to the office. Blue is for any outstanding positive behaviors.
This is a good way to deal with behaviors efficiently and effectively. It give you time to quickly deal with the behaviors and keep the pace of the lesson moving.
