This dot-to-dot chart is used for motivating students to improve a specific target behavior. For individual student use, together with the child, select a specific behavior that has been problematic(e.g., out of seat without permission, blurting without raising hand). Also, with the child's input, decide upon a reward that would be motivating to receive when his or her chart is completely filled. It is recommended to speak with parents before implementing the chart. The selected reward may be provided either at school or by the parents at home.
Let the student know that at certain time frames (such as right before recess, right before lunch, and end of day), if the behavioral goal was met, one dot on the chart will be filled in. Dots are filled sequentially, and when all of the dots are colored in, the student receives the pre-determined reward.
You may want to enlarge the chart and use it to improve a specific behavior you are working on with the whole class, instead of an individual student. For example, no reports of misbehavior on playground or cafeteria.
