This is the most successful tool I have used to manage severe behaviours in students with Autism. The visual aspect of the chart is essential for helping non verbal or low functioning students manage their behaviour.
I was at a complete loss with one student and nothing was working. I introduced this chart in the middle of a meltdown and the student's behaviour was curbed.
How to use this tool:
At the top write or draw the desired behaviour.
then in the happy face column outline the steps that need to happen and the outcome in which the student is "happy." Then ask the student if they want to be happy.
Do the same steps with the sad face.
