My class loves the way we start science! There is a student response sheet for each day of the week and a quick engaging video to play when class starts. This is an entire year, 175 day, journal with a corresponding YouTube playlist. Most the videos are 3 minutes long and an engaging way to start our class. The YouTube videos are not created by me and there are links to those vloggers.
I teach science and math, and it's my goal each year to challenge my students' view of what a scientist looks like and counteract bias that they encounter. I raise awareness of bias and show my students that many nationalities, people of color, and women are successful in various fields of STEM. This journal is all women in STEM and I will ask my students, both boys and girls, what they can do to help more women enter and stay in STEM careers.
