Start off your class period with a quick and easy practice or review of key grammar or reading skills with the help of a mentor sentence. Students read an included text and focus on just one model sentence per week. Then each day of the week, students are asked one question about that sentence. Now you can review key concepts in the time it takes you to do attendance! :)

In each edition, students are asked questions about various grammar, writing and reading skills such as:

    ★ text structure

    ★ conventions

    ★ types of sentences

★ grammar (adjectives, adverbs, subject & predicate)

★ re-writing sentences with new ideas

★ reading skills like cause/effect, inferences, tone, connotation, apposition, and author's purpose

Students can record their answers on the printable or digital question sheet or by using a special interactive notebook foldable that matches the sentence for each week!

There's a new text for each month of the school year!

    September: Perseverance with Walt Disney

    October: Spooky Story

    November: History of Thanksgiving

    December: Learn about Poinsettias

    January: Resolutions

    February: Valentine poem

    March: Who was St. Patrick?

    April: Earth Day

    May: See the U.S.A.

These mentor sentences are a great way to quickly and easily accomplish several things at once - grammar, writing conventions, and even some reading skills!
