This file includes weeks 1-20 plus a quiz that can be used at the end of every four weeks.
Core Ten is a bellwork program that can be used for daily practice of the common core. The problems are based on common core. I have chosen ten standards to focus on and students work on two problems each day at the beginning of class.
Each week problem #1 will focus on 8.EE.1, #2 will focus on 8.NS.2, #3 will focus on 8.G.9, #4 will focus on 8.EE.5, #5 will focus on 8.EE.7, #6 will focus on 8.F.4, #7 will focus on 8.EE.8, #8 will focus on 8.G.7, #9 will focus on 8.G.2, and #10 will focus on 8.EE.3.
Weeks 1-4 have very similar problems and students are quizzed at the end of the 4th week. Then weeks 5-8 are similar problems and again students are quizzed at the end of week 8. The quizzes are a great way for students to see improvement over time.
I start the year with these and usually have to guide the students through the problems for a few weeks. Once the year gets going students work on the problems at the beginning of class on their own, then we go over them together. It is a great way to introduce topics. For example student will have done the Pythagorean Theorem before we even get to that unit. So once it is time to teach the unit - they have already been exposed to problems. It is also a great way to review and incorporate spiral learning in your classroom.
