Product Description
WHY WOULD THIS RESOURCE GREATLY BENEFIT YOU AND YOUR STUDENTS?

The leveled readers (in your Benchmark Advance teaching materials) that go with this resource were designed for use with small groups. I found my students really struggling with the level of complexity in the leveled reader questions. The questions really require a lot of analyzing. Students need to understand not only what the questions are asking of them, but they also need to understand HOW to formulate an answer in response to these extremely difficult questions.

My approach in building this product was to GUIDE students and HELP them start their responses to the reader questions so that when they are giving answers, they are answering in complete sentences, and are answering thoroughly. I’ve also provided a place for students to indicate where they’ve located their text evidence for their answers.

Here are a few sample questions and what I include on the forms I’ve created:

According to Mega Mart’s Vice President, how would reliance on organic farms weaken Mega Mart’s community efforts?
Start with: “Relying on organic farms would weaken the community efforts. . .”
On which page did you find your evidence? ______

What is the main idea of the section titled “Mexico City, Mexico, 1977-1989” on pages 7-11? Use key details to support your answer.
Start with: “The main idea is. . .” ”I know this because. . .”

What text evidence on page 12 supports the inference that Gabby was probably lonely when she first moved to New York?
Start with: “Gabby was probably lonely because the text says. . .”

Why did the author include an advertisement for the life insurance in the text?
On which page did you find your evidence? ______

Which evidence on page 7 supports the main idea that power lines can carry currents to where they are needed?
Start with: “I know that power lines carry currents because the text says. . .”
These text evidence question sheets accompany the leveled readers that come with the Benchmark Advance language arts curriculum. They contain the same questions that are provided in the Benchmark Advance teaching materials, but with a few exciting additions that make them much more student-friendly. Within each unit, there are text evidence questions for all six leveled readers that come with the teaching materials. There are four pages for each leveled reader (for a total of 12 questions per reader).

Exciting features of these forms includes the following:

* Lined handwriting space for students to write responses to the questions
* A place for students to indicate where they found their text evidence
* Guidance for every question on how students can form their answers into complete sentences by restating the question.

***Please note that Benchmark Advance is currently a specific CALIFORNIA adopted curriculum. If you are from another state and using Benchmark, your curriculum may not align with that of California’s. In addition, I’ve used the online Benchmark Universe platform to access the information to create these materials. Since Benchmark Advance is so new, the publisher is constantly making corrections to their online versions to typos and mistakes. If there are any discrepancies in what you see in my product and what are see in your Teachers’ Resources, please let me know so that I can make corrections and send you a new file. Thank you!
