If you are feeling overwhelmed with teaching Benchmark Advance, let’s make your life easier! When I started this new curriculum, I had a hard time figuring out how to best present the material without reading the Teacher’s Resource System. I wanted to stay on track without carrying a book around my classroom. So, I developed these Google Slide teaching presentations to package all the content in a way that’s much easier to deliver! Students are now able to follow along with me as I read aloud the goals and expectations for the lessons. I’ve also included Google Docs with the charts students are asked to complete. This makes it so easy to project and fill out on the whiteboard! Simplify your whole group Benchmark Advance lessons with these presentations!
I use these presentations every day for the Benchmark Advance whole group lessons. Students listen as I read the expectations and goals that are presented on the screen. When it’s time for me to model a skill, Benchmark has students fill out a chart (key ideas & details, genre features, text evidence, etc.). I created separate Google Docs (links included in presentations) with these charts and I project them on the whiteboard. This makes it easy for me to show the students exactly how the charts should be filled out. The explicit teaching has really helped my students with the rigorous whole group lessons. I'm also thrilled to report that last year our fifth grade team saw a 12% increase in our ELA state testing scores, and all 4 teachers used these presentations!
