After we have read Beowulf, this is one activity I use. I instruct the students to find and cite examples of kennings, alliteration, and appositive phrases in the epic, which are found throughout. The chart provides one example of each as a review (they had been taught previously) and to show my expectation of the format. It also serves as a review of the tale because they are rereading passages to search for the examples. I sometimes allow them to work with a partner, depending on the class. :) I hope it works for you!
