Beowulf Resume Activity with Rubric
-This is a resume that I assign to students during, or after, a reading of Beowulf. For the assignment, students imagine that Beowulf is applying for a job as a king.
⤕To help him get this job, students must compose a professional resume and provide information about Beowulf under three different headings (Education, Work Experience, and Skills). For each section, students must be creative while including direct quotes from the text.
⤕For each category, students must include several listings. To get them started, I included several examples on the document. Students must also include Beowulf's contact information.
⤕This assignment not only provokes the critical reading and writing required by the Common Core State Standards, but it also introduces students to resume writing. This is a valuable assignment that students can complete individually or in pairs. If your school uses Microsoft Word, students can use the resume templates featured in the program (although, these templates are by no means required). From start to finish, you may find that this takes a couple of class periods.
⤕I have also included a rubric to allow for quick, efficient grading.
