This 42-page document includes scripted learning plans for a ten-day Beowulf unit. It includes multiple pre-reading activities you can use to introduce your students to the epic, two different expository writing assignments, and one final group project. The different activities involve individual, partner, or small group work that build on each other; however, it is not necessary that you do ALL of the pre-reading activities. You can pick and choose which one best suits you, the individuals in your classroom, and your allotted time frame.
**Both writing assignments are differentiated into 3 tiers**
These activities can be used again and again, year after year, and they can be easily manipulated to cater to individual needs.
Areas of Focus Include:
-- The Oral Tradition of Storytelling
-- Paganism and Christian Influences
--Characteristics of the Epic Hero and Anglo-Saxon Poetry
--The Psychology of Terror: What is a nightmare?
-- Character Motivation
--10 Days of Scripted Learning Plans, which help develop the following Common Core skills:
--Handouts to Guide Activities
--Optional Homework Assignments
--Two Expository Writing Assignments (Differentiated into 3 Tiers) with a Rubric
--Performance Rubric and Guided Activity for a Final, Group Project
**Also includes one of my other products: The Characteristics of the Epic Hero
