Product Description
Sometimes students need to investigate where the name of a place comes from. The city Galveston, Tx and its bay are named after Bernardo de Galvez, a Spanish governor and military leader who helped the American colonist defeat the British. Students will collect the facts found on the first day cover - an envelope containing a commemorative stamp, appropriate postmark and artwork, then locate the battles that his men won over the British. Included is a second primary source, a resolution from the House of Representatives celebrating Galvez's birthday. Read and find out why. Students can draw conclusions as to why that area of the continent were named after him.
