Best Beginning of a Term Ever - ★Begin a term with confidence! If you’d love to be so organized that you know what you’re teaching on May 5th, this resource is for you!!

***This resource is for teachers of any subject, in middle or high school!!!***

***Perfect for beginning a quarter, trimester, semester, or year!***

- If you want to be organized for starting a new school year

- If you're being asked to post your "Learning Targets" daily

- If you want to meet standards in your curriculum

- If you want to set your classroom up as a safe and comfortable place

- If you wish you never again had to hear “I can’t take notes, I don’t have my backpack,”

- If you want to engage your students in writing your classroom rules

- If you want to start the year off with a bang and excite students about your class in a week of creative and impactful activities

Again, this resource was designed for middle or high school teachers of ANY subject.

This lesson is taken directly from my Full Semester Health Curriculum, which is the “#1
Best-Selling Health Curriculum” on the whole TPT website!

***What sets this curriculum apart from others is that***:

-I-T'-S -N-O-T -J-U-S-T- -A- -U-N-I-T- -O-U-T-L-I-N-E- …

Highly organized, step-by-step teacher directions follow daily PowerPoints and tell you exactly to say!!

The week of lessons will work in any secondary classroom!! They are about relevant teen issues that impact all secondary teachers: values, communication, learning styles, goals, positive attitude, work ethic, parent communication, and getting to know your classmates.

This resources has 138 pages of organization tips for getting your curriculum and yourself ready for a new year, and 5+ "First Week of School" lessons.

PowerPoint presentations walk you through the lessons.

This resource includes templates and documents in Word so you can edit and customize them, and I included PDF versions as well.

These lessons meet National Health Education and Common Core Standards and Common Core buttons are listed within the lessons.

Here is all that this resource includes:

1. CLASSROOM ORGANIZATION in 4 steps: Choose the units you want to teach, organize them into days, align it all to State, National, and Common Core Standards, and fill-in a yearly calendar. I’ve included my real examples to help you.

2. A check off list to get your room and yourself ready for school to start

3. A class syllabus template to personalize to your curriculum

4. How to have valuable parent communication. Two FREE "Parent-Teen Communicators" are included!

5. How to have students help you create an “IDEAL” classroom and design your rules accordingly

6. Emergency substitute plans

7. How to have an inviting, comfortable, homey atmosphere in your room

8. How to use daily PowerPoints to direct students and to present your lessons (I’ve included 30 Morning PowerPoint Templates and different real examples)

12. A daily file folder system that makes your life so much easier.

13. Tired of spending precious minutes at the beginning of every class explaining to absent students what they missed? Find yourself trying to give a “mini” version of an important lesson to a student who missed it? Save time and energy with these “Absent Notes.” Editable template included!

14. Complete 2-day Values Lesson included, and a 26-slide “THINK, PAIR, SHARE” PowerPoint to help you teach your students how to voice their opinions and also how to be good listeners.

15. No more "I didn't know we had homework!" Use my awesome system to post what you're doing in class on your board.

16. "Why Does My Brain Still Think I'm a Caveman" Bulletin Board

17. THINK, PAIR, SHARE slides to promote student thought, reflection, talk, and interaction

As a 20+ year teaching veteran, I have so many ideas to share!!

DAY 1 LESSON: Try this “First Day of School” lesson that has worked great for me for years!

Introduce yourself to your students (template included) and then give a “Learning Styles” survey.

Finish up the first day with one of the most amazing YouTube videos I’ve ever seen, or do the “Get To Know Your Classmates” activity.

DAY 2 LESSON: Reinforce an “I will” attitude in your students.

(I had a buyer email me that she did the activity with her students last year and got a round of applause when she finished the story!)

Use the theme "Stop saying 'I wish' and start saying 'I will.'"

Set the tone for students that it's not enough in your class to just gain head knowledge, they need to actually practice what they are learning by taking it outside of the classroom for it to make a difference in their lives.

Again, a PowerPoint walks you step-by-step though both versions of this lesson.

The lesson ends with a contract to be open to change and an incredible file folder project/system that will make your life so much easier!

DAY 3, 4, and 5 LESSONS: Choose from 11 additional activities that you can combine in any way you choose to round out an amazing, powerful, fun, and engaging first week of school!! They are:

1) Ice-breaker-Getting to Know Your Classmates Activity (Change the questions to reflect your curriculum if you want)

2) Sticky Note Classroom Expectations (Rules)

3) Anonymous Teen Survey

4) Finish coloring file folders

5) Values Survey and Lesson (The complete lesson with PowerPoint and Mahatma Gandhi poster project is included!)

6) Communication Skills Activity-Start the year off right by helping students to learn to be good listeners and communicators!

7) Try this second “Learning Styles Survey” that also has an art project idea with it.

8) Read classic fables or other children’s stories with a message/moral. They could make a poster with pictures and the moral written on it.

9) Have students look through old sayings like, "One in the hand is worth two in the bush" or "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink," and determine the moral.

10) Do some goal-setting practice. Work on setting realistic, measurable (S-M-A-R-T goals).

11. Food Personality Survey, PowerPoint, and a Parent-Teen Homework
