Product Description
This workbook offers simple, straightforward, and engaging activities that are perfect for introducing and developing persuasive writing skills. They can be used for lessons, homework, group work, independent practice, or as a basis for class discussions.

The workbook contains 50 guided 2-page exercises where students decide on the best and worst features of a person, place, event, activity, or situation.

Each activity begins by asking students to list three positive or negative aspects of the given topic. This gives students the chance to think about the topic, brainstorm ideas, and come up with supporting ideas and reasons.

Students are then asked to select either the best or the worst aspect and write a short paragraph explaining the choice. This activity allows students to write a simple opinion piece where an opinion is stated and then supported.

Bonus Activities – Full-Length Writing Tasks

At the end of each topic, instructions are given for a full-length writing task. Each writing task asks students to use either the three good points or the three bad points they listed as the supporting ideas. This guides students to create a well-structured opinion piece with three supporting ideas.

Skill Development

The exercises develop key Common Core persuasive writing skills. They also encourage critical thinking by having students think of both pros and cons of a wide range of issues.

By completing the exercises, students will develop the following key skills:
• forming and clearly stating an opinion
• brainstorming reasons and selecting the strongest reasons
• supporting a point of view with reasons
• using details and examples to support ideas
• staying focused on a topic
• structuring opinion pieces based on supporting ideas
• considering both pros and cons
