*You do not have to have read To Kill A Mockingbird with your students to complete this activity.*
After reading the book, I had my students watch a video on YouTube. It’s a 4:13 minute video that talks about present day issues in our society (technology, racism, prejudice, role models…etc.) - Video given in directions after download.
After watching the video, I hosted a Socratic circle with my freshmen. I restated specific quotes from the video that I thought were good talking points for my students.
My students then lead the discussion from there, while I interjected a few times – asking questions and asking them how they could related some of the issues we see in our society today to To Kill A Mockingbird.
I then challenged my students to think about one thing they can do to make a difference in the world we live in today.
