These materials will help you to tell your students about the legend of Betsy Ross and the making of the first American flag.

The download includes:

- A reading passage (three different versions at different levels for ESL students)

- A PowerPoint presentation with three pictures to use when telling the story

- A handout that asks students to correct the mistakes in statements about Betsy Ross's story

There are three different versions of the reading at three different levels (high-beginning, intermediate, and advanced), so you can choose which level is best for your class. Alternatively, you can give different versions to different students in your class to differentiate based on their language levels. Click "View Preview" above to read an excerpt from the lowest-level reading.

A great activity for Flag Day (June 14), the Fourth of July, as a Social Studies activity, or any other time of the year.
