This Reader's Theater is for 4 students. It is about a Utah tall tale - the Bear Lake Monster. In the script, Izzik went to Bear Lake Utah on a camping trip last weekend and thinks he may have seen the Bear Lake Monster. The monster is a Utah folk tale and the other students want to know more about it. Clare knows about it so she and Izzik tell them. By the end of the script Fatima is not interested in seeing the Bear Lake Monster but Luis is. There is a short writing assignment afterwards asking the students to decide if they believe in the Bear Lake Monster.
I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. My scripts are in black and white with only the occasional color picture on front so they photo copy easily. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice in and less off task behaviors take place.
My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and, if your students enjoy this script, look for more tall tales and twisted fairy tales at my site. I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. Let me know how things go!
