Biblioburro (donkey library) is a book written by Jeanette Winter about a teacher called Luis Soriano that had so many books in his house as he loved to read. He decided to start a mobile library so that children in remote villages in Colombia could borrow the books. He carried the books on his donkeys called Alfa and Beto. It is an inspirational story based on the true story of Luis and the importance of education in creating a better future of Colombia. Have children discuss how far they have to travel to read a book. Compare how far Luis has to travel for children to borrow a book. Discuss why Luis thinks reading a book is so important that he would give up his Saturdays to do this for families.
