Bicycle Fun & Safety

It’s amazing how hot & cool you can be while riding your bicycle !

As a youngster my siblings, friends and I spent most of our Summer days riding around and around and around. It was too hot to walk.

Even though our bikes had only 2 gears: forward to go and backward to stop; they climbed, raced, wheelied, and seldom needed any kind of maintenance, except, of course, to pump up or patch a flattened tire.

Today’s bicycle is NOT just a bike. I googled their different types and discovered over 13 kinds: road, mountain, adventure/gravel, utility, fitness, fat, triathlon, tandem (built for 2), park (dirt jump, BMX, slopestyle), and…..kids. Okay….

Included in this May's CLAMDiggers Unit are:

• front & back covers for booklet use
• a thematic literature list of trade books
• a general lesson plan for reading comprehension of the reads
• (#) hands-on interactive activities with instructions written on an independent upper elementary level

You can utilize this unit as:

• whole group instruction
• small group instruction
• cooperative groups
• center time activities
• partner sharing
• independent study
