Big Al: This is part of my larger "Being Me" Book Buddies Bundle
.This unit is meant to guide you as you explore close reading, comprehension skills and writing about reading. Rather than write a day-by-day plan of what to do, I decided to create activities and share ideas for what you can do with this story. It is not meant to tell you HOW to teach, but rather to give you the tools to create your own lesson designs, student groupings and discussions.
There are 3 main parts to this unit – vocabulary ideas, comprehension skills (includes a “talking points” plan, activities and printables focusing on character traits and a “prove it” activity to help students practice finding support for a statement) and writing topics (responses to reading.) I have used all these activities and printables successfully in my second grade class – all in a variety of ways, depending on the needs of my students.
