Product Description
The lesson documents the reality of Big Brother in modern democratic society. It defines what Big Brother is and then cites the different mass surveillance and mass media spying programs that have been implemented by different government agencies in the wake of the attacks on September 11th, 2001. It highlights the fact that practically all internet-based communications are monitored and that most of our private communications are stored for possible future use. It addresses how security and safety have been used throughout history as an excuse to rob people of their freedom and liberty. It stresses the need for students to be aware of these programs and debunks commonly held notions such as “I have nothing to hide”. It reinforces the notion that truly free people should never accept or allow massive warrantless spying and that anyone concerned about her freedom should be greatly troubled by what has already taken place. The teacher is free to modify the lesson in any manner that facilitates its use in the classroom. (This product has been very successfully classroom tested)
