On the first day of school (or the first school day in January), Bob Shea's book Big Plans is a fun read-aloud to get kids excited about making their own "big plans" for the year, or for their future in general. The book is available from Amazon.
Using this printable, students can first decide on their own goal, and then work backward to list the steps they'll take to reach it. The result will map out their "big plans" and how to make them a reality! There is also room for a fun illustration.
Step One: Study hard to earn A's in math and science.
Step Two: Get into advanced classes in high school and college.
Step Three: Earn a Ph.D.
My Goal: Work for NASA
These make a great beginning-of-the-year bulletin board, and it's always fun to read what students plan for their futures!
