Phonics Boxes are activities formatted for the boxes available at Michaels that contain 16 smaller boxes. These activities can also be stored in 6x9 brown envelopes or any other way you would like to store them. Each “box” contains a sound or syllable sort and a flashcard activity/game. The cards can also be used just as flashcards and, if laminated, you can have your students use dry erase markers to highlight phonic concepts (such as vowels, digraphs, blends, etc.) There is a title card for the front of the box or envelope and directions. I use double-sided tape to adhere them.
Word Sort: Print, laminate, and cut out the header cards and the word cards. Students take turns sorting them by the sound in the word.
“Bigfoot Sighting” – Use the footprint word cards (for the word sort activity) and add in the BIGFOOT cards. Students take turns reading the words. If they get a BIGFOOT card, they get another turn. The student with the most Bigfoot cards at the end is the winner.
