Product Description
This lesson gives five current events which are connected rights protected by the Bill of rights. Students read each situation, take a position on each issue, and decide which amendment from the Bill of Rights would be in question. This would best be used the day after you have already given them some background on the contents of amendments 1-10. Alternatively, the teacher could provide a brief summary of the Bill of rights for reference. Events include: the indictment of Edward Snowden, the protests of the Westboro Baptist Church, the Orthodox Jewish slaughter of chickens for the high holy days, the strip search of a student in search of Advil, and the federal government's refusal to recognize California's medical marijuana initiative. The teacher could also make agree/disagree signs to place on alternate sides of the class and ask students to take a stand on each issue or place numbers 1-10 around the room and ask students to stand next to the amendment they believe is in question
