Product Description
This packet contains three lessons using Billy Joel's songs as starting points for research projects. These songs include:

We Didn't Start the Fire - This focuses on U.S. History from 1949 to 1989. As a group, students choose a topic to research, write a paper on and present to the class.

Leningrad - This focuses on the Cold War. Students learn about the Cold War through the song and create a journal entry, dialogue, poster, video or any medium which they choose to talk about the experiences of Billy Joel and Viktor (a man in the song) during the Cold War. Not only does this teach students about the Cold War, but re-teaches them that to each conflict there are two sides both on a personal and political level.

Goodnight, Saigon - Students listen to this song and process the lyrics through a worksheet. Then they research a topic related to the Vietnam War and write a 5 page paper about that topic.

This packet contains lyrics, assignment project details and group evaluation forms.
