To become familiar with actions taken by the United States and allied nations to combat the terrorist activities of Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda.
1 class period
In this lesson, students read a story about Osama bin Laden's earlier years, his reasons for becoming a supporter of international terrorism and founding the al Qaeda terrorist group, and the U.S.-led response to terrorist attacks he was involved in. As they are reading, class members must fill in in missing words, names, and terms. The story is divided into four sections, each of which has its own list of words, names, and terms for the kids to choose from when trying to identify correct answers.
Easy-to-follow Teacher Instructions and answer key included, along with a 20-question follow up quiz to measure student progress. The quiz can also be given as a homework assignment.
NOTE: This lesson also appears in my Recent American History series as lesson 45 of 45.
