This is a 4 page long Social Studies/ Reading Minilesson on Christopher Columbus. In the preview you see the 2nd page out of 2.5 of informational text. There's a total of 2 maps. The ensuing 10 reading comprehension questions focus on identifying main ideas and finding supporting details. In groups of sentences, students must label which sentence out of the 3 would be the Main Idea. There are four questions like that. The remaining 6 questions are multiple choice focusing on locating details and basic map reading skills. Students are reminded to look back up to the selection if they are not sure of the answer.
This minilesson serves as a nice resource for studying Christopher Columbus and/or The Columbian Exchange in Social Studies. I envision it's use as an introduction, a review, or as a quiz after studying Columbus. With the reading comprehension skills involved, the minilesson provides beneficial test preparation for standardized testing, It'll be very timely when Columbus Day rolls around.
