Crafting an appropriately challenging test for AP Biology takes a lot of time! This test resource will save you that time!!
This set includes a study guide covering content on basic chemistry, carbon chemistry, and large biological molecules, made to align with Chapters 4 and 5 in the Campbell Biology textbook (10th ed.). There is also a multiple choice and free response test for those chapters. These materials were designed using a combination of test banks (Campbell and AP practice and past test questions) and original questions. The documents are editable! Answer keys are included for both of the tests!
I teach AP Biology. My testing procedure (I have short periods) is to give the test over two days - a multiple choice portion on one day and a free response portion on the following day. I typically treated both sections as one test and took it all out of 100 points (deducting for errors and not being concerned with whether or not you could truly "count" 100 points).
The study guides could be used simply for individual studying and test preparation, or could be used in a class activity. They are generally broader, more encompassing questions (not one word answer type). One thing I have tried is to have students partner up to work on a question and I give them 3 minutes to answer that question and quiz each other, and then the partners rotate (inside-outside circles strategy). You might also try a "chalkboard splash" or other strategy to make student thinking visible in the review. Sometimes I have had the students prepare a set of notecards - one card per objective. Lots of options!
