Description

Teach the importance of biodiversity and ways to maintain it with this easy to use and check activity including a 2 page guided reading and 3 student pages.

The reading passage portion of this resource covers what biodiversity is, why we need it, and what is currently being done to support the preservation of species and their habitats.

The three student pages include:

  • One page with a food web where students examine the impact of extinction and overpopulation of various species on the ecosystem
  • A reading comprehension page with possible actions one can take to preserve biodiversity. Students will rank their importance and defend their reasoning
  • An extension activity where students can go outside and count the number of various kinds of species they find in their backyard or school playground to calculate biodiversity index
