This unit is an introduction to biodiversity, originally designed for Grade 6 students in an Ontario classroom, but can be used anywhere with most grades.
Students will learn about the human impacts on biodiversity and identify ways of preserving biodiversity. Students will investigate the characteristics of living things and classify diverse organisms according to specific characteristics. Finally, students will understand the contributions of biodiversity to the stability of natural systems, and its benefits to humans.
This unit combines expectations from the science, language, art, mathematics, and health and physical education curriculum documents.
There are ten lessons, each with multiple parts. All worksheets, checklists, rubrics, and handouts are included. Lesson plans are very descriptive, so you would have no problems leaving one with a supply teacher.
Many different teaching and learning strategies are used. All multiple intelligences are incorporated. All assessments are included with corresponding rubrics.
This really is a wonderful unit plan that your students will love! Huge time saver at a great price!
