Your students will organize and write a biographical essay describing an historical person's goals and the obstacles the person had to overcome to achieve the goals. This outline leads students through an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. An evaluation criteria checklist is included that lists requirements found in many high-stake exams' on-demand writing.
This outline activity may be used with the pre-writing activity, "Goals, Obstacles, and Successful People".
The students will be able to:
- Identify the goals and obstacles of successful people in history.
- Organize a five paragraph biographical essay
- Utilize writing skills and academic vocabulary that are common in high-stakes exams
The design of the activity is also effective with English language learners.
