Product Description
What did this person do to become a famous American that we should know and remember? This packet is the perfect place to record a summary in the students' own words that answers this question!

This packet includes:

* A cover sheet for the famous American biography facts they write.

* A reproducible sheet where the information that is researched is recorded. Copy a sheet for each famous American researched. This sheet is adaptable to any famous American. The top line is blank and would be filled in with the American's name while the additional lines have spaces for birthdate, birthplace, date of death, and the reason why this person is considered a famous American. To complete the page, a block is given where the student draws and colors a realistic (as close as possible!) picture of this person. Past experience has shown that a head to shoulders illustration works best to allow for facial details in this small space.

* A sheet for each student to record a quick look at themselves and how they may one day be a famous American for something that they did to make a positive difference in the world. This illustration can be a picture of how they look now or how they perceive they may look in the future!

* A poster: "Read a Biography! Find out the true facts about a person's life!" with photographs of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, Jackie Robinson, Helen Keller, and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Teaching Suggestion:
If students do not have the opportunity to research in books independently, a biography read aloud by the teacher is another way to engage students in a mini-lesson about the contributions of a famous American. Teacher modeling on how to complete the page is a great help to ensure that students understand the expectations of how their information and pictures should look. After several pages are complete, students may begin to become more independent.

TEACHING CONNECTION NOTE:
This is the perfect companion to the BIOGRAPHIES - FAMOUS AMERICANS RESEARCH AND RECORD PACKET also sold in my store! Students use guided research questions to complete biographical information on sheets about each famous American: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, Jackie Robinson, Helen Keller, and Martin Luther King, Jr. These research sheets can then be used to help students complete the page summaries in this packet in their own words.

What do your students remember? Use the quick check up in my store called FAMOUS AMERICANS - WHO AM I? Students answer the "Who Am I?" riddles with the people they describe.
