The Biography Note-Taking Chart with Guiding Prompts can be used in a variety of ways – including during the research of a famous person or as an assessment of a student’s independent reading of a biography or autobiography. See the implementation ideas for this free resource below!

Implementation Idea #1: Famous Person Research

Do your students struggle with effective note-taking skills during the research process? This free resource includes a digital note-card with guiding research prompts! The more structure you can provide during the research process, the more focused and successful your students will be!

The research questions and prompts can be used to note relevant information on any famous person – including figures of historical significance and modern people who are making an impact on our world.

By implementing this biographical research note-taking form, teachers can help facilitate a structured research process with their students. Students will not be able to copy/paste long passages of text into this note-taking chart.

This note-taking template with research prompts will teach students to summarize – NOT plagiarize! The form is editable. Teachers can edit the research prompts on the note-taking handout if needed to specifically align with their research assignment!

The form also includes a space for source citation. This will help students to keep their researched notes organized with an identified source as a point of reference.

The Biographical Research Note-Taking Chart will help facilitate effective research skills with your college-bound students when they will be expected to write research essays with parenthetical source citation.

Along this free research resource, teachers will also receive a digital library of 32 links featuring biographical content for future research projects and assignments!

The handout with digital research links provide your students with resources that contain biographical information on a wide variety of people - including world leaders and the most influential people throughout history, inventors, scientists, artists, leaders during specific historical movements, modern day celebrities, and more! The links will enable teachers to personalize student learning by allowing them to choose their own topic of interest!

Implementation Idea #2: Independent Reading of a Biography

Are your students reading biographies or autobiographies? This resource can also be used to assess their knowledge and understanding of the text!

A close reading of the biography will be required when students use this note-taking handout and document relevant details about the person who is the subject of the biographical text!

The source citation space can be used for text evidence – i.e. the biography’s page numbers as a point of reference for their responses to the resource’s guiding prompts.

Share the note-taking chart and the handout with biographical website links to facilitate your students close reading of informational text!

Students can select choose to read an informational text article on an influential famous person from the 32 website links provided!

Using the note-taking chart, students can select 3-4 of the prompts to answer based on their reading!

This resource is formatted for Google Drive. Directions are included on how to share with students using Google Classroom, how to print, and how to download the Google Drive files for Microsoft Office compatibility!
