This Biography Book Report - Famous Person Poem and Action Figure book report is perfect for your students to create when reading biographies or autobiographies! Whether it’s for an assigned book report or for a writing project, your students will enjoy the creativity and freedom of making their own Action Figure characters!
I use the format from Margaret Wise Brown’s “The Important Book” with my students as they create their action figures. The format for this poem requires students to think of the one most important thing about the person they read, and then other “supporting” important things (addresses main idea and supporting details in text).
Students can then create their action figures. The only materials they will need are a 2-liter bottle and a 4” Styrofoam ball. The other art supplies can vary, depending on what is available. I’ve seen simple characters made just with construction paper, markers and scissors. I’ve also had characters made with doll clothes and accessories. Fabric swatches are great for this type of project!
Also included is a rubric for quick, easy grading!
