Here is everything you need to engage your students with Informational Text (non-fiction) Standards. This INTEGRATED Biography Reading and Research Project fosters CLOSE READING, CRITICAL THINKING, ANALYSIS, WRITING, and SPEAKING. The project is individualized and self-directed with lots of instructional tools and ways to model for maximum learning. Students will learn how to read and take notes without copying right from the text. Printable graphic organizers help students UNDERSTAND TEXT FEATURES AND TEXT STRUCTURES associated with the biography genre and adds to accountability. It takes students through the process of research using more than one source and gives them opportunities to COMPARE and ORGANIZE THEIR FINDINGS. Students also delve into CHARACTER TRAITS and the SPECIFIC VOCABULARY found in reading biographies and researching a famous person. Students then use their knowledge to create a TIME LINE and ORAL PRESENTATION (Living Museum Style) project as culminating activities to CELEBRATE their accomplishment. Comparing Pocahontas biographies are used as examples to help you when using the graphic organizers and other materials
The resource includes several choices to DIFFERENTIATE INSTRUCTION. Please take a look at the PREVIEW to see the TABLE OF CONTENTS and the list below for more details on what this resource contains and the COMMON CORE STATE STANDARDS it covers.
