Many Language Arts or Literature units grades 6 - 9 contain some reference to the writings of Mark Twain. It might be a complete novel like Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, or Connecticut Yankee.
Most American Literature textbooks include at least one Twain short story, usually “Celebrated Jumping Frog,” or a selection from “Life on the Mississippi.” This brief biography packet is designed to acquaint students with the life of Mark Twain and guide them through writing an essay reflecting on how an author’s background influences his or her writing. It can be used with any Twain full novel, excerpt, or short story assigned by the teacher. Provides practice in finding and citing textual evidence in both nonfiction and fiction.
