This product is designed to help your students analyze summaries and weed out weak summaries from a group of four. Each page contains a brief biography of a children's author and then four summaries. Students must choose the strongest summary out of the four.
Along with each summary there is a table with criteria for weak and strong summaries. Students check the appropriate boxes in order to help them determine the best summary. Another strategy that can be used is the popular BME (beginning, middle, end). Have students write a combination of the letters B, M and E in order to label which parts of the passage the summary covers. Includes ten mini-passages.
These passages have been useful to me around testing season. Students often have difficulty with summarization, I hope this product makes it easier for your students as it did for mine. Hopefully they learn something new about an author they love, or learn about someone new, enjoy!
