This is an interdisciplinary project that encompasses a large amount of ELA standards for grades 5, 6, and 7, as well as standards from other subjects. It is similar to a science fair, but it is a biography fair instead. Students choose a person who they are interested in studying about--be sure they choose someone with positive qualities. It is more difficult if they choose someone who is known for negative qualities.
Students do a variety of activities--write a report with a bibliography, complete a graphic organizer where they compare and contrast their sources, etc. Students are expected to include an artistic sketch or painting as well as reasons why they admire the person. A timeline of the famous person's life is part of the project, also. There are seven different parts, including dressing like their person. At the end, judges from the community come in and evaluate the students. I have included the requirement list, rubric, examples, and all necessary information and handouts. The students thoroughly love this!!!
