In Chapter 3, we consider how the Earth system recycles matter. A number of biogeochemical cycles are considered, interactively showing how specific elements move from one Earth subsystem into another. The concept of residence time is explored along with the impact that humans have had on these grand cycles. These cycles help us understand how interconnected the Earth subsystems are. This product uses the interactive capabilities of a computer. The chapter has embedded an end of chapter quiz, uses graphics, animations or user interactivity on almost all pages. This product is designed to provide bite-sized pieces of information in an effort to enhance the scientific literacy of our next generation, not to overwhelm them with sheer quantity of information. Chapter 3 sections: What are Grand Cycles? • The Water Cycle • The Nitrogen Cycle • The Phosphorus Cycle • The Carbon Cycle • Checking Your Understanding. This product works both on a Macintosh or PC computer.
