Chapter 6 continues by looking at the chemistry of large molecules that are unique to living systems. These molecules, known as macromolecules, are important to living systems as they provide energy, structure and regulation. The structures of each of the four main types of macromolecules (carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids) are covered and interactive animations show how these large molecules are built from smaller units called monomers. This product uses the interactive capabilities of a computer. The chapter has embedded an end of chapter quiz, uses graphics, animations or user interactivity on almost all pages. This product is designed to provide bite-sized pieces of information in an effort to enhance the scientific literacy of our next generation, not to overwhelm them with sheer quantity of information. Chapter 6 sections: Macromolecules • Carbohydrates • Proteins • Lipids • Nucleic Acids • Checking Your Understanding. This product works both on a Macintosh or PC computer.
