This resource is intended for use in an IB Biology class. This data analysis practice question presents data from an open-source scientific journal about measures carbon and nitrogen content from foraminifera in a benthic ecosystem.
This six page question challenges students to read complex graphs, interpret them, and reflect on aspects of experimental design such as sample size. Two extension topics are included. A detailed key is provided that includes a commentary on the answers giving clarification and suggestions for achieving high quality answers.
A Nature of Science connection about the use of radioactive isotopes in science is included in the teacher notes. A short discussion topic and three sources for further research by students is provided.
This resource is stand-alone so only a general knowledge of food web terminology is needed, along with a strong background in mathematical skills required for analyzing data.
