BE AWARE THAT THIS ITEM IS INCLUDED IN A BUNDLE OF MATERIAL LISTED AS BIOLOGY I: NUCLEIC ACIDS, PROTEIN SYNTHESIS AND GENETIC MUTATIONS THAT IS FOUND IN MY STORE. This is an activity that I constructed after watching a show called "Whose Line Is It Anyway?". Students are divided into groups of two or three students. Each student has a different role. Between the three students they should write an exact copy of a DNA strand given to them by the teacher, convert it into RNA strand construct a sentence by using an amino acid chart based on the codons (anticodons) and perform whatever the sentence commands. This is an easy grading assignment for the teacher because they will know instantly if the group got the command right. My students have fun with the activity. It also leads into the concept of genetic mutations as the students make mistakes in constructing their commands through the process. I have included a key for each of the 31 "Simon says" commands. These commands can be the student saying a sentence to another student, performing a task, quoting a line from a movie, singing a song or performing a dance. The students from the other groups can guess the movie or the song/artist once the student performance is done. I have also included links to videos so you can determine if the commands/songs are appropriate for your class. This is a Word document so you can make changes if you feel something is inappropriate or if you want to make changes. With that being said please let me know if you find an error. I have gone through this material several times but with four letter there can be typing errors. As pop culture is relevant for the times, I will be updating this from time to time.
