This activity is meant to allow the students to explore Mitosis and Differentiation without a large front load of information. The students will use yarn to build a model of the steps and outcome of mitosis. Then the students will compare their creations to others in the room.
They will use this comparison to demonstrate differentiation, how a cell uses different pieces of DNA to make different kinds of cells, but that all cells came from the first cell and therefore have the same total information.
Then they will journal about their discoveries. What information they discovered correctly the first time through and what information they got wrong.
