I created this lab for my high school biology students. I use it either during the cells unit or when I teach photosynthesis.
The lab gives students detailed instructions on how to mount a plant leaf (Elodea works great!) on a slide and view it under a microscope. The students have to draw what they see on low AND high power and answer some analysis questions on the back of the lab.
This lab corresponds to the following Georgia Performance Standards for Biology:
SB1. Students will analyze the nature of the relationships between structures and functions in living cells.
a. Explain the role of cell organelles for both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, including the cell
membrane, in maintaining homeostasis and cell reproduction.
SB3. Students will derive the relationship between single-celled and multi-celled organisms and the increasing complexity of systems.
a. Explain the cycling of energy through the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
