These reading guides are meant to accompany the Miller Levine Biology textbook (the one with the giant Scarlet Macaw/red parrot on the front of the book) but can easily be modified to fit any Biology content reading. They are written per chapter/subject area (e.g. Ch 4 Ecosystems and Communities). This zip file includes chapters 1 through 19 including every essential topic for secondary level Biology. Age appropriate for 6 - 12 grades. I wrote these after many literacy infusion (CRISS), student engagement (Kagan), and ACT Prep trainings. You will find these reading guides require your student to develop a better understanding of science content as they read the text. Like I said before, you can modify these (quickly and easily) to fit any Biology content reading you assign to their students. They are crafted to force the students to create the answers (instead of just Googling them). NGSS standards available upon request. The guides include vocab building activities, short answer, some essay, many diagram/concept maps, etc. (basically a wide variety to hit every learning type). Some find it old school to require the students to actual read science text!!! But, I believe it is incredibly important not only for science understanding but also for college prep (as most of their learning will probably be reading or lecture).
