Poly, -itis, chondro-, osteo-, and other Greek and Latin roots form the basis of many scientific terms. This two- page lesson gives students practice finding the meanings of word roots, then using those word roots to create actual words, such as osteoporosis, biometrics, and pachyderm. It includes a crossword, a matching section, and a section where they write the words that create from the roots. Students will need access to the internet, or a science textbook with a list of word roots (most Biology and Anatomy texts will have this).
Estimated time 60 minutes.
