Are you looking for an activity that helps give your students the biological foundation to psychology so they can understand the key concepts of psychology? If so you have to check out this activity!
This activity includes:
1) A colorful and engaging graphic organizer that first asks your students about the neurons and the central nervous system. They are asked to define a neuron and then the three different types of neurons. Next they are asked about the central nervous system and the different aspects to the CNS including the Peripheral, Somatic and Autonomic Nervous Systems.
Next students are asked to identify the different parts of the brain and describe their basic functions. They are given a 3d image of the brain where a specific portion is highlighted with which they will use to identify the portion of the brain. This activity will be great to use in correlation with a unit on the Central Nervous System and the Brain.
The final portion of the activity asks your students to analyze two quotes about psychology. The first quote is from William James and the second quote is from Sigmund Freud. Your students will not only analyze the quote but are also asked to interpret the quotes using their own experiences.
This activity can be used in many different ways in the classroom. Students can work independently, in pairs or this activity can be used as a jigsaw in order to facilitate a class wide discussion about the topics discussed in the activity.
