Here is an activity that allows your students to see how biomagnification works. Instead of consuming heavy loads of Tuna fish to see the effects of Mercury, you can mimic the same process in your class!
Basically, the students in the class are separated into 4 different trophic levels. Each student of the lower Producer trophic level will be given a plate of food where some of the food will be contaminated. In my classroom, I use sushi pieces as their food. The contaminated food will be the ones with lots of Wasabi (Check for allergies). As the students of the Producer group consumes their food, they pass their plate of food to the next, and so forth until the final top consumer. The top consumer should receive all of the food from the producer (both contaminated and non-contaminated). The student will see how the top consumer gets a higher concentrated amounts of the contaminated food even with the non-contaminated food.
