Vocabulary Cards-
Place the cards on a ring and match the words to the picture.

Vocabulary includes:

- These word cards can also be used to teach these words as sight words

Fact Cards-
- 14 Fact cards for each biome with a QR code to an informative, kid-oriented instructional video.
- 14 links to videos.
Writing Prompts-

Students are to watch the videos on the fact cards prior to creating their responses to the writing prompt.
- For the beginning writer, there is a large card with a weather icon and a pre-written sentence that can be attached to the card with Velcro. If the product is laminated, the student can practice sentence formation by tracing the sentence.
- Another option for this card is to have the student create their own notebook with their own sentences.
- For the more advanced writer, there are 12 thought provoking writing prompt cards the students can choose from. For example, “Imagine you decided to hike a mountain and you want to camp. What animals might you see when you are camping? How would you feel about seeing those animals at night? Why?”
o These responses can be graded using the 6 trait writing model, or whatever model your district uses to asses writing.


Also included are some copier- friendly pages to reinforce the vocabulary instruction. These are no-prep! Just print and go!

The common core emphasizes the importance of using textual evidence to support ideas or opinions. I feel like when students have print based reading disabilities, the concept of taking print and using it to support your personal opinion becomes a little bit overwhelming. There are a lot of processes the brain has to go through to read something, process the meaning, translate it into something meaningful to the individual, use it to support an opinion, and then go back and state why the information made you feel a certain way.

The idea behind this product is that the students can use evidence from an exciting video to support their opinion, taking some of the mental load off of the brain, making it less overwhelming. With practice from using that technique, they will then be able to move on to using print to cite evidence from forming an opinion.
